The ticket was purchased before 3rd June, 1956 when the third class no longer existed and it became just 1st and 2nd. Prior to the 1844 Railway Regulation Act 3rd class carriages could be open to the elements with no seating. In 1987 2nd class was renamed as standard class. The ticket cost 11s 6d (about 58p). A standard ticket from Selby to Garforth in 2022 costs about £7.00.
