Frank Lee Thwaites

Frank was born on 24th March, 1911 to John & Alice whose address was listed as Main Road but was undoubtedly 1 Chapel Street. John was listed as a butcher whose brother lived with them and was also a butcher. His younger siblings were Enid & Gilbert.
He may have enlisted in September 1940 and have remained in the Reserve until 1954 but it was not possible to confirm this was his record. He is thought to have served in Germany at some point during his active service. During the war he met and married Margaret (Molly) R. Anderton in Croydon.
Frank was appointed to the Postal Service in September 1956 and his registration nomination number was 79218. For many years he was the village postman and then transferred to Selby.
Frank and Molly lived in Hambleton and were both very active in all aspects of village life. Frank was a Church Warden for many years. When he passed away in 1982 the family had St Mary’s Church bell refurbished.
