Knavish Tricks or Murder will out Musical Play

The School presented two musical plays over 4 nights, Friday & Saturday 8th & 9th and 15th & 16th February, 1924. The cast for the Knavish Tricks or Murder will out included The King of Hearts E. Craven, The Queen of Hearts D. Middleton, The Knave of Hearts D. Smith, The Two of Hearts A. Dodsworth, The Seven of Clubs J. Walker, The Five of Spades L. Hill, The Three of Diamonds R. Clayton, Clerk E. Parker. The Courtiers were E. Walker, C. Rowling, L. Milner, D. Boldison, K. Craven, C. Milner, C. Eshelby, F. Thwaites and B. Clark. The Soldiers were R. Burton, K. Stoker, A. Wilson and I. Flint and the Jury were D. Howie, D. Spence, L. Goldthorpe, A. Hill, R. Rowling. W. Forrest and H. Charters.
There were two scenes the first in the Royal Kitchen and the second in the Royal Court of Justice.
A press cutting from 22nd February, 1924 read “The third and fourth performances of the Musical Plays, Knavish Tricks an Operetta in two scenes and Topsy-Turvey Christmas, an Operetta in three scenes, including a Fairy Scene based upon a Fairy Ballet entitled The Children’s Dream were presented to the public last Friday and Saturday by the children of Hambleton School. The audience at the last performance contained many persons from other towns and villages, and they experienced a rare treat. The programme as commented on in detail in our issue last week was repeated. The whole production was a fine exhibition worthy of any school, and reflects first thee happiness and loyalty Hambleton School Children and the extreme endeavours made on their behalf by their Headmaster J. F. Winterburn.”
