Quite a day in the Howcroft family as sisters Edie and Audrey had a double wedding. They were both born and bought up in Hambleton.
Edith was born in1925 and Audrey in 1928. They were born to Albert & Blanche and their siblings were Leslie, Alfred, Charles Albert (Bert), Edgar, Violet and Alec.
Edith, known as Edie married Jack England from South Milford. They were certainly living in Hambleton in November 1952 in Chapel Street and remained in Hambleton for the rest of their lives, living on Station Road. They were involved in many village activities and Jack ran a youth club with Mrs Lister for a number of years. Sadly Edith died in 1982 and Jack in 2018.
Audrey married Eric Costigan from Tadcaster and moved out of the village but had close contact with those still involved in village life. Sadly Eric died in 1970. Audrey worked for ‘Dr Mary’ for many years.
