The history which has been unearthed about the Hall so far is: in 1798 it was owned by Mary Smith; Pre 1847 Samuel Smith owned the Hall and lived in Hambleton House. It was inherited by Henrietta Smith and was put in Trust prior to her marriage to Captain James Lees Hawar(d). The Hall remained in the Smith family through George Henry, Joseph, Mary, Henrietta, Richard Samuel and Reginald Barcroft; 1850 Mr W. M. Pollard who was in occupation of Howlett Hall offered 98 poplars, 14 oak and ash trees for sale as timber; 1908 owned by Captain Haward or Harvard (?); 1911 Mr Stoker was in residence; 1939 census listed Eric and Edna Longbottom; 1945 Mary Smith the last remaining relative of Henrietta Hawar(d) nee Smith died and her representatives sold to Alfred Watson; 1961 Eric and Edna Longbottom were listed; in 1976 Alfred Watson sold to William Millington. The land is farmed by Millington Farms Ltd, the original Hall is empty but the new farm house is occupied.
