Lily joined the Women's Land Army (WLA) and served until it was disbanded in November 1919. She married Frederick Pawson on 25th June 1921. The WLA was created in 1917 to enable women to work in agriculture and release more men to join the military during World War I. The WLA was reformed in 1939 for the Second World War.
