Campey’s business premises on the site of the old Jam Factory

Mr. Harry Campey started his haulage business in the 1930s with just one truck. The business was eventually based on the site of the old ‘Jam Factory’ on Station Road. In February 1940 the ‘jam factory’ site was advertised for sale and described as a Freehold Factory – 3,000 square yards well lit floor space on one level; office block; large site allows for expansion; good road and rail communication; price £2,000. Campeys of Selby Ltd is now owned and run by his Grandson Paul Campey, the third generation of Selby based hauliers, with his son Harry Campey, who is the fourth generation, working within the business also (in 2020). The Hambleton premises were eventually sold to Redrow who redeveloped it for housing.
