Hambleton’s Comfort Fund

Hambleton’s Comforts Fund provided a £1 and Christmas card for 41 men and women serving in H.M. Forces. The Fund received several messages from villagers serving overseas to thank the ladies for their gift. A pound was banked in the names of 13 men serving in the Central Mediterranean, Middle and Far East. The names in the article include Lance Corporal D. Carmichael, L.A.C. A. E. Simkins, Driver G. Thwaites, Private A. Ransome, L.A.C.W. C. Lister, Driver E. Middleton, H. Middleton, Private K White, Guardsman R. Gibson, Lance Corporal D. J. Hall, H. A. Longfield, L.A.C.W. D. Copley, Pte B. Copley, L.A.C. T. J. Gardner (“Somewhere in Holland”), Private C. Brown, Private A. Ridsdale, Bombardier B. Clark, L.A.C. G. W. Douthwaite, B.S.M. R. Clayton, Lance Corporal F.
