Charles Norton

Charles was the husband of May whom he married in 1914 and the son of the late Thomas Norton and Jane Norton. He was born in Hambleton in 1889. In the 1901 Census he was living with his mother and 2 siblings, Rebecca and Fred, by the 1911 Census he was just living with his mother and working as a clerk in the Jam Factory. Charles signed up on 12th July 1916 aged 26 years and seven months and his occupation was recorded as telephone operator and clerk. He transferred to the West Riding Regiment in September 1917. When he died on 10th May, 1918 he was a private in the 1st/7th Bn., Duke of Wellington’s (West Riding Regiment), service number 25491 aged 27. He is buried in Boulogne Eastern Cemetery.
