Daisy, the daughter of William and Blanche Howcroft lived with her parents and 3 brothers, Cecil, Thomas and Roger, in the house next to the Police house on East View, Station Road. Blanche made the outfit for Daisy, but she was kept busy throughout her life by having a variety of jobs that could be worked around her family life. At various times she was the school caretaker, she ran the village fish and chip shop on the Main Road, catered for weddings, made and decorated cakes, delivered babies, laid people out, was the Sunday School superintendent and sang in the choir. Daisy’s father was a joiner. Daisy married Alfred Cook of Snaith in 1938 and had 4 children, Gerald, Myra, David and Dorothy. The family lived in Gateforth Lane before moving to Chapel Street in 1948. Daisy worked as a School dinner lady and at the Owl, taught at Sunday school and was a member of the Church choir. She died unexpectedly in 1968 aged 49.
