The photograph shows Harris and Eliza Anson with their three children, Eliza (Lylie), Harris Hartas and Mary outside Greystones on Chapel Street. Harris was one of 8 children born to George and Sarah Anson who lived on Lidgett Garth (the area near the Old Chapel on Chapel Street which is close to the end of Garth Lane). Harris was born in circa 1852 and lived in Hambleton until he died, aged 80, in 1932. He was a Justice of the Peace, well know agriculturist, Chairman of Selby Rural District Council and Vice Chairman of Selby Guardians for many years. He married Eliza Foxton in 1888 and they had three children. Eliza (Lylie) born in 1890 who married Frank (Francis) Liversidge on 12th July, 1911 and Ralph Ostler in 1931. Eliza and Ralph lived in Hambleton for the rest of their lives. Harris Hartus was born in 1891 and when the First World War started he volunteered for the army and served in Egypt for a couple of years. On return to England he was granted a commission, Lieutenant with the 5th Bn., Duke of Wellington’s (West Riding Regiment). He married Kathleen M. Berry Harris on 6th March, 1918 at St James’s Church, Leyland. He went to France and was sadly killed on 30th August, 1918 and remembered with Honour at Vis-En-Artois British Cemetery. Mary married Lieutenant W. Clough on 19th December, 1914. Further research is being undertaken into the family history of the Anson Family.
