White House Farm

The history we have discovered so far starts in17 when the farm was owned by Robert Jenner. The 1911 Census lists William Thompson as the head of the household a farmer living with his wife Ethel and Gladys a daughter, Kenneth a son and Gertrude Webster his sister-in-law and Lily Berriman a general servant. The 1939 Census lists Kenneth Webster Thompson and Gertrude Webster residents. The Daily Mail on 15th March, 1950 included a report of Stack Fire All night battle. Some 90 tons of threshed corn, hay and straw, were destroyed by fire last night at the farm of K. Thompson of Hambleton. Fire brigades from Selby and Knottingley, using water from a nearby stream, prevented the fire from spreading to buildings in the stack yard. Poultry in the henhouse were set free by farm workers. Firemen were on duty throughout the night as a precaution and cut away parts of the stacks. By the 1961 Census Kenneth and Ivy were in residence. The Thompson family continue to farm the land and the farm house is lived in by Ken and Susan Thompson.
