Red Brick Farm

The history so far discovered starts in 1798 when it was owned by J. Dunnington. The 1911 census lists Robert Jagger as a farmer living with his wife Emma and 6 children and it is likely that they were living at Red Brick Farm as they were the there in 1917 when their son Alvey (Albert) died fighting in France. A Kelly’s Directory in 1927 listed Robert Jagger as a farmer. The Polling list for 1934 included Robert Jagger as living on the Main Road. Some local Deeds show that in 1939 Wilfred Jagger purchased the farm from Robert’s estate and in 1940 a Sale of stock and implements was advertised including 8 horses; 28 head of cattle; 22 pigs and farm carriages, implements and gearing. In 1961 the residents listed were Robert, Elsie and Wilfred Jagger. The farm was purchased by Michael & Gillian Jagger in 1970. Finally, in the 1980s British Rail bought the entire farm to build the East Coast Mainline. The dwelling became a private house and any land not required was sold to adjacent land owners.
