Anson Brothers are believed to have built the factory on Station Road around 1890. On the Electoral Register for 1891 Andrew was shown as Moiety of Freehold Factory (owner of half the factory), the other owner is not listed in the Hambleton record. A newspaper reported in November 1890 that Anson Brothers of Hambleton & Bradford have found a way to preserve peas. The only such enterprise in the UK. A glass bottle was designed with Messrs. Ryland & Sons Barnsley and patented. A bore hole was sunk 150 feet to ensure the purest water was used. The peas were grown locally and picked and shelled by hand. The peas were then washed and steamed. The business based in Bradford Anson Brothers (Bradford) Ltd and sold goods on St James Market. The wholesale price list published in May 1908 included a list of sauces, conserves, chutneys, honey, salt powders, herbs, vinegars and jellies. All the goods were transported via the railway.The business was run by Andrew and Harris Anson.
