The exact number of men from Hambleton who fought in World War 1 is not known but the names of those who lost their lives has been recorded. The names are commemorated on the War Memorials in the Church, Chapel and on the Village Green. A book has been produced by a village resident commemorating the men from Hambleton who died during WW1. The Roll of Honour in the Chapel list the names of 26 worshipers who joined His Majesty’s Forces during the First World War, not all of whom lived in Hambleton.
The amount known about the different men varies considerably. If you have any photographs or information HHRAA would love to hear from you and to be able to add to the website. We do no have photographs of all the men who died so have associated the information we do have with a photograph of the War Graves Commission Certificate.
The names of those who died are Harris Hartas Anson, Percy Bainbridge, Harry Darnbrough, Alvey Jagger, David Johnston, William Middleton, Henry Newby, Charles Norton, Thomas Parker, Henry Render, and Oliver Scatchard.
