Rail crossover in Hambleton Station

The engine is on the crossover switch to the other track. It is thought that this was to allow the main line trains to pass. This train had been converted to a 'push-pull' which meant it could work in the opposite direction without turning round. On the extreme left of the photograph the sidings and goods sheds can be seen with two full wagons standing next to the ramp which allowed lorries to off-load their suger beet etc.
